Dogless in Whistler

Image
Wolf on the Loose Tue July 30 Pet not predator Just back from a week in Whistler where we took advantage of not having Jack with us and were able to spend a lot of time up the mountains and in bars, where dogs are banned. Promoted as 'dog friendly', compared to the UK it is anything but.  More of Whistler later. Morning walks along Bonniebrook beach almost came to a halt a few weeks ago, before we headed North, after I came face to face with a large wolf gambolling along the road heading for Jack.  What do you do when a wolf heads towards you?  I had no idea.  It had, what I assumed was a tracking collar, but turned out to be a domestic dog collar.  His name I discover is Rudiger and he has a reputation for escaping from the compound his owner created for him with 12' high fences with an overhang. He wanted to play with, rather than consume Jack, but it was still an initially unnerving experience.  Rudiger has been the source of much social media commentary...

A Lie In! Mon Jul 12th Hopkins Landing The early routine remained the same only slightly later without Wimbledon encouraging Fred up to make the morning cuppa.  Tea delivered, I took Jack down to the beach at Hopkins Landing which has became the preferred local morning walk.  Only one other person out and they hadn't lost a iPhone, but suggested putting it on the Friends of Hopkins Landing FB page.  Over to Fred now I am no longer a FB user. I spent half an hour trying to get the phone working, succeeded in getting it charged and intermittently starting.  It's probably salvageable.  I dropped the phone off at the RCMP office in Gibsons in case the owner inquires.  If I had lost my iPhone I would be half way through calling the 25,000 residents of the Sunshine Coast by now!  With the bolt stuck in my tyre (now assuming the Canadian spelling tire) it was off to the tire centre in Gibsons to get a quote for at least two new tires.  There was gre...

Fish Market

Morning 5k Sat May 15th The morning beach walk provided no new photographic opportunities and though I was out early (0630) I was disappointed to find several walkers beat me to it! A quiet agenda for today.  A visit to the Public Market in Gibsons for some fish.  Fred did the shopping and I had a coffee with Jack in the sun outside.  He was offered water but declined!  While Fred completed a few shopping needs, I watched the activities of Gibsons Marina.  Gibsons from the Marina Set  between the local mountains and islands, it has a stunning backdrop.  I was particularly interested in the boat launch ramp, getting to understand the subtleties of a clean boat launch, without getting the car or your feet wet.  Getting the stern of the boat in the water, removing all the straps, making sure someone dock side had a line and then a quick reverse and brake and the boat was in the water.  Quite impressive!  Food for thought, will need so...
