Birthday's, Anniversaries and

A Coyote Sun April 28th Jack was distinctly unimpressed by the lunchtime visitor, the Coyote was underwhelmed by Jack's objections We were so preoccupied enjoying the first decent bit of snow this year when we went up to Whistler, that it completely slipped our minds that April 3rd was the 3rd anniversary of our arrival in Canada, and therefore didn't make the last blog.   While in Whistler, we did go out to our favourite Creekside restaurant ( The Red Door Bistro ) to celebrate Fred's pending birthday and might have had an extra bottle if we'd remembered our Canada anniversary.  The reason for the early birthday celebration was primarily because there are no fine-dining restaurants on the Coast, and we like the Red Door Bistro.   I  am not sure q uite why April 3rd passed us by.  Maybe it's because being here has become the norm.  It hasn't lost any of its beauty and we still marvel at our luck at being able to live here.  Whether its drivin...

Thrashing in Bath

Rain Stops Play Starts Hopkins Landing - Morning Walk Sun Oct 17th The thrashing took place in the City of Bath when the home team were given a rugby lesson by Saracens in a palindromic 17-71 drubbing.  Bath have now lost all of the opening games in the Premiership and are bottom of the league.  The Sarries game was a great game to watch, even for Bath supporters.  Bath probably learnt more today from the opposition than their own coaching staff.    My fellow Brit dog-walker with the Rhodesian Ridgeback, is a Gloucester supporter.  They drew 25-25 to London Irish in Brentford.  Much less embarrassing!  On the plus side, at least we're not paying subs to Bath now we're in Canada! By Sunday afternoon the rain of the last few days finally stopped and we got out to play without wet weather gear.  In the local area we'd had 154mm of rain over Friday and Saturday and a modest 15.4mm Sunday.  Roads, creeks and trails have been running...

Dawn Chorus Hails

Morning Visitor Wed Jun 2nd Capt Jack posing in front of Rockridge Cabin Back from my early morning walk, I was enjoying my first cup of coffee of the day, sitting on the deck finishing Tuesday's blog in the quiet warmth of the early morning when I became aware of the local Robins collective alarm call.    Seconds later my eye caught movement to my right, as a lone coyote slowly trotted past the edge of the smaller pond.   No camera, again, but fortunately iPhone in pocket.  I managed to catch the last few seconds as he sauntered up the rocks behind us before disappearing up the mountainside.  Jack, slumbering behind me was unaware of the visitor.  I'm not sure what they would have made of each other.  Brief video below and best bit right at the beginning. Having had the sighting confirmed by our resident Canadian and now woken from his slumbers, Jack decided it was time for a swim in Mixal Lake, and that I should go with him.  When...
