Trans Canada Trial Run

Cronks Go Camping Earl's Cove RV Campground Greetings from a sunny Earl’s Cove at the northern end of BC’s Sunshine Coast. Almost the most northerly part unless you get the ferry across to Powell River.   We’re on a "shake-down" trip with the new 25' RV (caravan to the Brits), checking out how it all works, which buttons to press to turn on lights, heating (still haven’t worked out the hot air system yet) etc etc.  So far we’re still talking to one another crammed into a 200 sq ft shoe box, but it’s early days :-)   Earl’s Cove has the ferry terminal for Saltery Bay/Powell River and, close to Egmont, a small hamlet at the top of the trail that takes you past Brown Lake to the Skookumchuck rapids.  Egmont is worth a visit as the views across the top of the Sechelt Inlet are lovely.  We first came to Back Eddy’s pub and restaurant during our initial 6 weeks living at this end of the Coast in 2021.  It’s the kind of place where you want to leap into ...

Four Hundred Shipping Boxes

Two Whales and an Otter Fri May 27th  Downstairs recreation room/bedroom It seems to take so much longer to unpack than pack.  We are surrounded by boxes and it has taken a long time to make a dent in the various stacks.  As we feared we have more possessions than we want or need,  but are about 50% of the way through our combined local and international shipped boxes.  The UK shipment arrived in a 'Tardis' on Monday. The seemingly never-ending stream of boxes and wrapped furniture took three fellas five hours to unload.   Since then it has been non-stop.  On top of that we have had to carry out a super-clean of our rented house, ready for a handover inspection on Friday 27th.  We are to say the least, weary. Garage now a temporary box store The new house already feels like home and it's lovely to sit in the living room or on the deck to take in the view.  You just block out the boxes in your peripheral vision.  The resident Grey Wh...

Snow

Well it is Whistler! Thu Dec 9th  Paw Prints We've escaped to Whistler for a few days, after last week's excursion had to be cancelled because it was raining up the mountain.  Not so this week.  The snow above the mid-station was great and there were few fellow skiers on the slopes, more importantly, no lift queues.  The advantage of skiing in December is fewer people; the disadvantage is that conditions can be variable, as we found last week. Nick and Lizzie's apartment  which is now fairly well booked for the season (we got in early, but there are still some gaps) is in Creekside.  Worth keeping an eye on it for any last minute deals.  The 'loft' apartment is great for two people and good for a family of four.  It's a 5 minute walk to the Creekside gondola and there is a well stocked supermarket, BC Liquor store, bars and equipment shops close by.    Since we moved to Canada, Jack has been amazing and settled in qui...
