Beavers Abound

Trailer & Tariffs Beaver on Nita Lake We first came out to Canada in 2000 for a 2 week holiday.  The plan was to spend a week in Muskoka, North of Toronto, then drive over to Vancouver and spend a week on the West Coast. Realising it would take the best part of a our second week to get there, we abandoned the plan. Lake Vernon on the edge of Huntsville was our base for those two weeks, playing in boats on the interconnected lakes the first week, then exploring Lake Huron and the Algonquin National Park, north of Huntsville the second week.  In the two weeks in Ontario and every visit to Canada since, we've never seen a beaver in the wild; nor since we moved to Canada in 2021.  That was four years ago, Thursday April 3rd. The last week of Feb we were in Whistler for a week and on one of my early morning walks with Jack we discovered a young beaver was walking along the ice on Nita Lake.  It's one of the last places I'd expect to see a beaver as it doesn't fee...

Pemberton Day

Last Minute Adventure Gates Lake Thu Aug 5th  Just as I was about to sit down with a glass of wine and write up today's rather thin activities, a text arrived from Nick.  Do I want to go canoeing? An evening's paddle has to be much better for you than sitting down drinking wine, staring at a computer screen.  It wasn't in today's plan. As part of our search for the right location  we planned to head up to Pemberton, about 25 minutes  north of Whistler.  We'd stayed just north of there in a log cabin on a 14 acre former smallholding, next to Gates Lake some years ago.  We'd liked the town but hadn't been in house hunting mode back then. Our first stop was the 60m high Nairn Falls, on Green River.  A 1.5k walk along a steep wooded valley side.  About a third of the way along a narrow path went down to a small beach area, away from the roaring torrent of Green River.  At the far end of the dirt track a short steep climb up an area of rocks ...

More Houses

On the Sechelt Inlet Thu May 6th Today was more house hunting.  Two properties on the Sechelt Inlet.  The inlet is a section of sea that comes right up to the back of Sechelt almost making everything NW of Sechelt an Island, but for the town itself being built on a land bridge.   Of the two properties, one was a possible and the second a really interesting art deco meets 70's hippy house.  An eclectic mix of styles, art and furnishings, but no garden!  It was a hillside property with stunning views over the inlet but Fred would need a safety harness  to manage the front garden!  The first house had great views as well.   So still looking.  We are keeping the first property in mind as a short term purchase.  Before heading back we headed further west to Pender Harbour (not overwhelmed) and Garden Bay (stunning properties -  but distant from services). We had previously made an offer for a property in this area but...
