Fish Market

Morning 5k

Sat May 15th

The morning beach walk provided no new photographic opportunities and though I was out early (0630) I was disappointed to find several walkers beat me to it!

A quiet agenda for today.  A visit to the Public Market in Gibsons for some fish.  Fred did the shopping and I had a coffee with Jack in the sun outside.  He was offered water but declined!

While Fred completed a few shopping needs, I watched the activities of Gibsons Marina.
Gibsons from the Marina

Set
between the local mountains and islands, it has a stunning backdrop.  I was particularly interested in the boat launch ramp, getting to understand the subtleties of a clean boat launch, without getting the car or your feet wet.  Getting the stern of the boat in the water, removing all the straps, making sure someone dock side had a line and then a quick reverse and brake and the boat was in the water.  Quite impressive!  Food for thought, will need some practice!

Nick and I have been talking about some water based transportation, so it was a good opportunity to check out what the locals use!

We've become rather fond of Gibsons and are interested to see if our 17.00 viewing offers an opportunity to stay close to the ferry terminal.

Back to the house and I did a 5k run.  Clearly out of practice and need to work harder!

Fresh mussels from the market for lunch.  Could have done with a few more hours in salted water to clear the grit, but sweet and tender.  Just don't bite hard!

While I regrouped after the run, Fred took Jack for a stroll down to the Gibsons end of the beach and a paddle in Chaster Creek.

Our 1700 property visit was a disappointment.  The view of the Gibsons harbour and inlet must have been taken before the  trees grew.  That option was crossed off the list.  Now just the 1500 Monday deadline to consider!

Back to the ranch, a stroll along the beach for Jack and some pan-fried snapper and salad for supper.

The one photo opportunity of the day was down by Gibsons Marina while I was supping my cappuccino in the sun.  A chirpy bird was singing away on top of a lamp post.

Snapped for later identification, it turned out to be a White-crowned Sparrow.  Photo on the right.

A final stroll before supper and the locals were enjoying the smoke from their beach fires and the evening sun.  Chatting to one group and checking out the cooking pot, it was clear they were 'not going to go hungry', the chef admitted.  Beach life, Canada style.
