Weather Bomb

Damp Squib Thu Oct 28th Nick and I settled down to watch the F1Q My son, pictured right, says I talk to much about the weather.  Because he's now a Canadian citizen he seems to have forgotten that Brits like to talk about the weather; but advice headed.  Suffice it to say it has been damp, but hardly explosive. Nick was over on the Coast this weekend but as he was 'out Friday night' was quite happy to watch the F1 Qualifying with me on Saturday afternoon.  It was clearly quite riveting - we both slept through it.  Sunday morning we'd just finished breakfast when a visitor popped by.  We have no idea how it got in, unless when Fred got up to let Jack out at dark o'clock it slipped into the mud room unnoticed.  After about 5 minutes flying up to all the open doors it headed off out.  Big fella, but not sure what type of bat it was. After the excitement of the breakfast visitor and with Fred immersed in final house removals and  furniture shipping lists, Nick and I hea

Covid and Cars

Batteries not Included Tue Aug 24th  One of the many barges taking wood chips to Port Mellon  Wed Aug 25th Having checked out the Chevy Bolt Electric Vehicle (EV) on Sunday we arranged to take a closer look on Tuesday.  The red EUV (slightly larger than the EV) remained unsold on the forecourt.  We learnt that it, and all other Bolts were going to remain unsold due to a Chevrolet recall and sales ban.  They were happy to take a deposit on it, but we were not able to do a test drive. Irritated (understatement) we'd driven down to Sechelt when the salesman knew it could not be sold and then tried to sell something else was not a great dealership strategy.  It was particularly frustrating as we wanted to buy an EV from a Coast based dealership, rather than have to go back to Vancouver for servicing. GM are the only EV supplier on the Coast.  About ten of GM's earlier models have caught fire because of a battery fault, none of the 2020/21 models have had the problem.  Our two car

Roof-racks, Rugby

Racoons and Reflections Fri Jul 23rd Sat Jul 24th The last vestiges of snow in the gullies and ravines of Mt Windsor (we think its Mt Windsor) are quickly disappearing.  The small snow cap on the very top has gone.  Another week and it will have disappeared completely. When we arrived three weeks ago the peaks and ridges were still shrouded in snow, despite the heatwave.  At sea level its about 26 C today (Saturday), at 1689m, probably a lot cooler. Friday the bars for the roof-rack were delivered, but not the rails, even though they were despatched at the same time.  $168 for a next day delivery and the bars took three days and the rails have not moved from the distribution centre since they were received on Tuesday.  Monday, I am told.  I remain to be convinced.   The rest of Friday I spent setting up the workshop and completing my first turning project.  A large fruit bowl turned from Magnolia wood. It is the first time I have turned a piece using the chuck and bowl 'jaws' t
