Yacht Refurb Progresses Sun July 30th Sechelt Inlet Sunset - Print now framed and on wall This time two years ago we were in the grip of a heat dome with temperatures in the high thirties peaking at 43c.  This year we are closer to seasonal normal, unlike other corners of the planet which are suffering significant heat-waves ...... or floods.  Rain is in short supply and the 43mm (first rainfall in two months) that fell some days ago will do little to alleviate the water shortage on the Sunshine Coast, or indeed the rest of BC.  Across the other side of Canada in Nova Scotia floods are the order of the day.  We live in a time of stark weather contrasts around the globe.  There are,  according to current press coverage , climate change deniers still out there.  I wonder what it will take to change their perspective.   The current Ashes Test series continues to engage  this very small part of the Coast.  If England are lucky they will...

Plus a Bison Banquet Thu Nov 24th  After putting my pre-order deposit down in Nov 2021 for the all electric Rivian R1S (SUV), I finally heard last week that delivery will between October and December ........ 2023.  That's the good news and bad news in one!   I have finally been able to see one in the flesh at a customer event last Saturday in Vancouver.  Nick and I had a boys day in town checking out the vehicles, which continue to get amazing reviews.  Top Gear reviewed the R1T pickup .  They are impressive vehicles and the larger battery pack has a range of circa 320m (514k), though if I test the 0-60mph in 3 seconds regularly I suspect that may be a tad optimistic .    The event was busy, suggesting there are quite a few pre-order customers in BC, the launch province for Canada, the only country outside the USA where Rivian vehicles are being sold at the outset.  It's not surprising as BC has the highest proportion of EV sales in Nor...

Truth and Reconciliation Thu Sep 30th  Hopkins Landing Tuesday morning. Today marks the first National Day for  Truth and Reconciliation .  A day for the country to reflect on the lost children lost, or those who survived, the Canadian Residential School system.  It is a public holiday for Federal employees, but individual provinces and territories have not decided to make it a public holiday for all. There are ceremonies taking place throughout the day and orange shirts are much in evidence.  These reflect the significance of a child's newly purchased shirt  being confiscated on their first day  going into one of the residential schools.  Canada is clearly wrestling with how to address its colonial and early history and the injustices that were metered out to the First Nations peoples.  We both recently finished reading 21 Things you may not know about the Indian Act by Bob Joseph .  A hereditary First Nations clan chief, he sets out ...
