More Snow

Happy New Year!

Just as the road was becoming more passable after the snow on Christmas Eve, another 200mm fell overnight of the 29th/30th.  The snow-shoes came into their own Thursday morning, just for getting Jack down the road.  What a great Christmas present.

With temperatures remaining below zero the snow is expected to stick around until at least Sunday when we have a couple of days when the forecasts suggest we will get up to a balmy +5c.

Although the council snow-ploughs and gritters have been out, even the main roads still have some snow on them so we have not ventured far.

He loves it!
A neighbour with a plough attachment for his tractor/lawn mower again cleared the road below us as far as the section where it levels out and I decided to take on the drive.

I wish now I had bought a snow-blower rather than a snow shovel, as it took me the best part of two hours to clear our steep drive and get some salt down.

Quite satisfying when it was all done even though I ended up on my backside twice at roadside end of the drive, forgetting there was a band of ice from the previous melt.

I'm heading to Vancouver on Wednesday to find some snow chains that fit the Land Rover, from a specialist supplier, so we can head back up to Dakota Ridge again, where chains are mandatory.

The evening sun on the mainland mountains in the clear cold air really lit them up.  It is an uplifting view.

Friday with much of our lane at least passable along the vehicle tracks, I took an early walk down to Hopkins Landing just as the sun was coming up.  It was cold.

Covid case numbers in BC are increasingly rapidly with Omicron being the predominant strain.  So far the hospitalizations and deaths are a much smaller proportion than with previous strains and the director of public health for BC is already musing whether the pandemic may be about to move to an endemic phase.  Many restrictions are still in place, more so than the UK, even though overall numbers are proportionately lower.  Only time will tell.

Next week it will be nine months since we arrived in Canada on April 3rd.  The time has flown by.   We remain excited by what 2022 will bring as we resume our house search once we are through the Christmas property market lull.

Let us hope that 2022 brings an end to the impact that Covid is having on so many people and the lifestyle constraints that affected us all.

A Happy New year to you all.

    1. Ideally the Gibsons end of the Coast but it’s going to be driven by finding the right property.
