Confession Time

And It's Raining!

Sat Nov 27th

Not quite the Burbage Christmas Tree Sale and Market and we didn't need to steal in to the forest in the dead of night to choose a tree, though as you might imagine there is quite a selection!

'Crazee Mike' (not me - though some may disagree) runs a Christmas tree farm near Gibsons so we headed off  yesterday to choose a Douglas Fir. Selected, tagged and paid for, we will collect next weekend.  They are felled to order so it will be pretty fresh.

Now for the confession.  I have never been a fan of drama series or serials.  Eastenders, Neighbours, Coronation Street or the ones with posh frocks such as The Forsyth Saga or Downton Abbey.  I think I was put off by watching Crossroads when I was little!

Interesting finish!
Canadian/North American TV does not quite have the richness and variety of the UK.  We have somehow
ended up 'binging' on Downton Abbey.  Not bad I suppose but I can't believe the plots are that much different to more contemporary drama, just a different setting.  Why do I mention this you might ask?

We were watching the episode with the New Year's day shooting party.  The guns going off, the pheasants clucking and end of drive horns being sounded and Jack was up wondering when he was going to be allowed out to pick up.  Some things you just don't forget.   And nor do I.  To my former fellow guns I hope you are having a good season.  I do miss it - but not enough to come back!

Hopkins Wharf
Low Cloud behind
Meanwhile, back on the weather front, the third wave of 'atmospheric rivers' has arrived.  The first was mid-October when we had 200mm of rain.  Mid November the 2nd system arrived and along with 150mm of rain.  This weekend and early next week two further systems arrive.  We wait to see how much water it brings.  The Fraser Valley and the two towns most badly affected last time are on alert, and not all the flood water has yet gone.  We wait and see.  Hopefully it will add to the snow in Whistler, where we are headed on Tuesday.

The fuel limit remains in place for the time being because of the limited road links to the interior.

Local rag humour

We are restricted to 30L per fill, which affects me, but not Fred.  It has brought out the usual crisis humour.

In between the rain there have been some lovely scenes across West Howe Sound from Hopkins Landing, low moody cloud, sea mist and the sun putting in an occasional  appearance.

We've been exploring the local Soames Hill Park, which sits between us and Gibsons.  The walks are rather wet at the moment and the steams and creaks flowing.

The invitation to the big Land Rover event that promoted Audi in the last blog, was corrected a day later with a Land Rover invitation to a Land Rover event.  Someone pressed the wrong button.
