Bear Curtailed Walk
And then it rained!

An obscured Whistler Mountain |
Whistler Mountain seen on my bear abandoned morning walk. You actually can't see the mountain because the low cloud and rain has at last arrived. It dampened the dust on Lost Lake trail and produce a lovely wet pine aroma that has been absent for some six weeks.
Yes, it was our fifth bear this morning. For the first time I'd let Jack off the the lead as I'd started round the back of the lake with the hillside to the left and lake on the right.
One hundred metres further on a black blob appeared at the side of the path. I called Jack back and put him on the lead and waited as the bear ambled up into the hillside. I waited a few minutes and assuming it had gone, slowly continued on down the trail. It reappeared, twenty metres closer and heading towards us. We backed up and watched it head off down to the lakeside. At this point the margin between lake and track was narrow and decided I did not want to get between bear and the forest; I headed back the way I'd come, warning a cyclist and runner of the bear. They thanked me and carried on! No pics today - I was tracking backwards!
It rained most of the morning and temperatures had dropped some 20 degrees from early thirties to mid teens. I used the time to sort out photos from the last few days over the 'state-of-the-ark' broadband speeds. For a world-leading resort, the broadband provided by Shaw is painfully slow and unreliable. One mbps in each direction. If you ever come to Whistler, ask what speed you'll get. They may get the message!
After lunch we did a long walk round Lost Lake from the main town car park and then spent an hour in town. We got back just before the heavens opened.
Nick, Lizzie and co walked up, yes up, Blackcomb mountain today, so no late-in-the day adventure texts. Phew!
A few more pics and videos from yesterday, now that the MacBook has synchronised over the Shaw 'connectile dysfunctional' internet! These are Friday Views.
As we wandered down to town for dinner last night (Fri) we watched the summer use of the lower slopes by mountain bikers. These were the gentle bits!

We’ve had exceptionally heavy rain this morning. Proving a very frustrating year for farmers! Liz
ReplyDeleteI saw Charlie had started on the Oilseed Rape - did he get it in before the rain! Here the frustration has been for firefighters with lack of rain.
