A Lie In!

I spent half an hour trying to get the phone working, succeeded in getting it charged and intermittently starting. It's probably salvageable. I dropped the phone off at the RCMP office in Gibsons in case the owner inquires. If I had lost my iPhone I would be half way through calling the 25,000 residents of the Sunshine Coast by now!
With the bolt stuck in my tyre (now assuming the Canadian spelling tire) it was off to the tire centre in Gibsons to get a quote for at least two new tires. There was great interest in the size of the bolt, 'we've never seen one like that before'. I hadn't either! 'it's not repairable' didn't need to be said.
My worst fears were confirmed, not only was the tire not repairable, but the difference in tread between the new and old tires was too large so all four have to be replaced! It is a problem I've have come across on four wheel drive Land Rover and Audi's before. Tires then ordered for fitting Tuesday or Wednesday; all-year-tires that can legally be driven in snowy mountain terrain in winter.
Out of curiosity, I removed the bolt from the tire which had been buried to the nut head. About 100mm long and a 12mm barrel (except it will be an imperial size).
I have had nails, torn tire walls, a screw in each of two tires at the same time, delaminated tires but never anything quite this size.
Limited driving speed on an undersized spare rather limited our activities today, aside from the fact we no longer had a spare. I may keep the bolt as a souvenir!
A few jobs around the house, it was a rather quiet day. Fred ventured in to Gibsons to get a some chairs for the outside deck which makes life a bit more comfortable. Fred's also discovered you can get some decent housewares (as well as reading books) at the local Thrift store (aka charity shop) which is run by the Salvation Army - in fact there are a number of youth adventure camps in the area also run by the Sally Army so quite a presence in this area.
I managed to get some video of one of the visiting hummingbirds. We were sitting outside for some of the afternoon and they carried on feeding a metre from out heads.
They really are a delight.
Despite the heat of the last few weeks, though cooler now, some snow remains on the distant mainland mountains.
Who had the lie in? I always thought you were up before dawn? Interesting sized bolt to get stuck in your tyre (tire), and odd that it was the correct way up to go in....
