Irony &

Coincidence

Tue Jul 13
Wed Jul 14

Needless to say, the tires were not delivered to the repair shop on Tuesday and only two were delivered on Wednesday.  That meant Tuesday was an enforced local day, not wanting to drive around on a 'donut' spare and not have a spare.

We explored the local area, bought a Basil plant from someone's front garden, met locals Madeline and Vern who live behind us and were invited to pick raspberries from their garden.  Very welcoming.

Most of the update/news is Wednesday driven.

This morning I was checking the UK bank account only to find those lovely people at Sky UK have continued to deduct our DD since we left the UK and returned our Sky Q box, three months ago.

A note to their email complaints department (I wasn't planning on ringing from Canada) and we wait to see how quick it's resolved.  Any senior Sky directors  reading this (you know who you are), expect an email if they don't sort it out quickly!  :-)

Fred has joined the Suncoast Racquet Club ready to get back in to tennis.  The new Club membership lady who rang today  to welcome Fred, is South African and her husband comes from Marlborough Wiltshire.  Small world!

I decided to doorstep the tire company rather than ring and when I turned up they'd had two of the new tires delivered but not all four.   They fitted the two they had, so we now have a spare and similar tires on the rear.

They have have not been paid so have an incentive to get the last two ASAP.  The new tires are snow and mountain rated and chunky for the forestry trails.  Not that they stand any more chance of stopping a 4" bolt than the old ones!  It does mean we can drive to Whistler in winter without being fined for illegal tires.

This (Wed) morning I dropped an enquiry to my new friends at the Suncoast Woodcrafters Guild asking for advice on where to acquire a wood lathe, to keep me out of mischief once the novelty of being here has worn off.  LoL

Bob from Sechelt was in touch saying he was offering his for sale.

After a lunchtime visit to the 101 Brewhouse where  we sampled another two flights of local ale, had a really delicious lunch, we headed off for a modest trek around the local hills.

I am pleased to report 101 Brewhouse, also distil their own gin, so we had to acquire a bottle for Fred's comparative tastings.  Report to follow.

After the walk it was off to see Bob in Sechelt.

Another coincidence - his house was one of those we viewed a month/six weeks back, when we were at the height of our property search.  I drooled over his workshop at the time and am now looking at the lathe.  He is only selling the lathe as a result of my enquiry.  His workshop is an Aladdin's Cave of kit, but I'm trying to limit myself to the lathe and attachments.

When I arrived he was sitting in the backyard, with his workshop kit displayed and priced.  A very upmarket garage sale.

He had been a medical technician maintaining surgery equipment and his wife an artist. She had a lovely studio on the lower (Ground) floor when we went to view their house.   They are downsizing to something more manageable.  Small world again.

It is fascinating meeting new people and finding out what they do and their backgrounds.

He will be getting a call tomorrow with a yes to his kit!
