Record Temperatures

It's Hot

Mon Jun 28th

It was a balmy 25c as I set out on this morning's walk at 0630hrs.  That's as cool as it was going to get today.  Later afternoon temperatures are expected to hit 40c.  Not quite the record BC reached yesterday, or may even break again today.

The walk reprised one we did when we were first released from quarantine in April.  I say we, today I was on my own.  Wimbledon has started so I shall not see Fred in the mornings for another two weeks.  If we were not 8hrs behind it would have been a larger chunk of the day!

Today's forest art was on the Hyannis Trail.  There is someone around with an imaginative eye and a pocket full of pebbles.  I wonder if I will come across any others this week?

The individual trails in North Van run for many kilometres but connecting trails and and crisscrossing of the main trails create a network which makes it possible to walk (run or ride) your distance of choice.  (See image).

North Van Trails (part only)

The walk this morning, was the purple route, plus a small leg up to Seymour River Suspension Bridge, where Jack took a dip.

The river levels are much lower than April when we walked up here, soon after our release from quarantine.  Video below.

Unusually, though not surprisingly, there were quite a few walkers, riders and runners out early this morning to beat the heat.

Fortunately the morning was filled sorting out utilities for our new rental.  Surprisingly easy compared to the challenges we had with the telco, Telus, for mobiles.  But it still took several hours.

Fred was delighted the heat forced her in front of Wimbledon.  Eight hours behind, this started at 0630 local time.  Not my preferred way of spending a morning, at least I had utilities to set up!

By late afternoon I needed a distraction and headed down to MEC, the local outdoor store to acquire some bits and pieces, Stongs (the local Waitrose) and the pet store for dog food.

The car was 42c when I got in and didn't drop below 40c while I was out.  The AC was a welcome relief.

As I write this it appears the records have been broken again today.  Yesterday's 46.6c at Lytton has reached 47.5c today

Jack cannot understand, why he cannot go out for a walk or stay in the garden and play ball.  Just gone 2000 hrs it's still 34c outside.

Tomorrow, Tuesday is a busy day.  Nick is coming over to Jack-sit.  We are off to get the non-functioning auto stop/start fixed on the car and Fred to do the obligatory IKEA shopping; U-haul van hire to collect, table and chairs to pick-up, Nick and Lizzie coming in for supper ........

With luck it will be a few degrees cooler.  Maybe early 30's!
