PHEW!!
It's Warm
It is not often that you start a dog walk at 0630 and it's 21c. Today was the exception. It was going to be a two shower day - at least!
There were few people "out and about" and we (Jack and I) were back on the Hyannis trail in North Vancouver, a route well trodden on our morning walks during out last stint in N Van. Jack seemed to know where he was going.
The tall pines helped make for a cooler walk and as we dropped down to Seymour Creek the temperature dropped a further few degrees.
A round trip of 4.2k and 120m climb I was 'glowing' on my return. By the time we got back the parking around the trailhead was full.
A new addition to the walk was some carefully placed rocks in a moss laden tree stump with ferns atop. It looked like something from the 'Monster Munch' or 'Don't Forget the Honey Mummy 'advert, I can't remember which or what the last one was for! Very clever.
Our lovely host Shari dropped down for a refreshing glass of chilled water later last night and we had a good catch-up, though I had to retire at ten thirty as I was done-in! I left the ladies to it. Shari and Fred are night owls, I'm not.
The rest of the day was spent out shopping for household items for the long term rental. Fred did the morning shift and came back glowing. I did the afternoon session.
Canadian Tire is an Aladdin's Cave of goods. From, not surprisingly car tires [tyres] to household goods, hunt'n, shoot'n and fish'n kit, clothing, sports gear, canoes and much, much more. It also has pretty good Aircon. Could have spent the day there.
The forecasters did not disappoint, though we rather wish they had. In fact they underestimated the temperature. When I got back to the car it was registering 42c and on the drive back it did not drop below 38c. I did check out fans while in the store - not surprisingly all sold out!
Tomorrow is going to be warmer still and then we hope starting to head back to a balmy mid-twenties.
The apartment remains delightfully (relatively) cool. Our hosts upstairs catch more of the sun, but do have some AC.
This evening's dog walk will be much later and short. A quick dip in the creek for Jack and I suspect a shower for us on return.
Tomorrow and Tuesday, more retail therapy! At least it's cooling down from Tuesday - a bit!
Oh for a dip in Mixal Lake....
