iPhones Do Travel
Not all Apple staff Know that!
Fri May 21st
I had calmed down this morning after yesterday's rant about Apple iPhones. I didn't believe a phone bought in one country would not work in another. But that is what the Apple said yesterday. Today it was a different story. The tech expert confirmed the different model numbers represent how Apple deals with conformity with local legislation. It does not affect the call performance, that underlying technology is the same. I do believe that!
So I now have a new Sim, and we wait to see if that fixes the problem.
This morning was a mix of packing for our move to Garden Bay, collecting a replacement phone SIm and waiting to see if we were able to connect with Nick's citizenship ceremony. Inevitably it was a virtual event, such is the impact of Covid. He is now a Canadian Citizen. We are delighted he has succeeded in his ambition, so pleased and proud of him. It is though in other ways a slightly odd feeling. As his presence is cemented in his now dual citizenship, we have this underlying disconnect and sense of being 'between two places'. We have been away from the UK for seven weeks, and are detached from the emotional attachment to Eastcourt House and Burbage is receding rapidly. We love BC and where we are, but there is a slight feeling of detachment or maybe disenfranchisement that we have no presence here beyond visitor. It is an odd feeling.
Before heading off for a walk around Sergeants Bay Provincial Park, we swung by a possible rental, close to Gibsons. Unfurnished, but in a quiet location close to the ferry terminal with views of the water, we are off to see it inside tomorrow. It looks stunning, if not a tad too spacious for the two of us and Jack.
Sergeants Bay Provincial Park is part of the Halfmoon Bay area and has a small cove and inland freshwater marsh and lake preserved for wildlife. Dogs have to be 'leashed' and are not allowed on the beach, which most Canadians seem to ignore. We did keep Jack on a lead as the presence of wildfowl might be too much of a temptation for his honed natural instincts!
Some new birds to add to the album, not all have yet been typed. Definitely a Redwing Blackbird, an American Robin and a Great Blue Heron (incongruously perched on a tree).
Jack showed off his swimming skills and after walking back to the car rolled in the dirt ..... so he went for another swim!
We then adjourned to the Brickers Cider orchards to sample the brews with some local friends. What a great catch-up in the sun. A feeling of normality.
As I write today's piece the sun has been setting over a perfectly still and windless evening looking across Georgia Strait. The water is like a mill pond again, and the dying embers of the sunset are beginning to fade against the grey silhouette of Vancouver Island. Stunning.
Tomorrow - Garden Bay.
