Six Down
Eight to go
An early start today when our dog Jack's shipping company driver rang at 0100 to ask where we were as he pitched up in Burbage to gather up said dog.
Err Canada, you should have the number of our dog sitter ...... 'sorry did I wake you'? Not easy to get to sleep again after that. The problem quickly resolved (Jack had been taken out on a final Burbage walk) and he was on his way to his overnight in Windsor, kennels not the castle, before his 1st class priced flight with Air Canada on Saturday morning. Emphasis on price, rather than service as there is no at-crate service in the hold. Pressurized, temperature controlled, mood lighting, water and that's it.
A few hours later my semi-conscious slumbers were interrupted by Radio 4 Extra's move to rolling news following the sad news about HRH Prince Phillip's death. Time to give up on the idea of sleep and we decided it was time for a cuppa. A good British solution to most major events.
Breakfast consumed and some time in front of the TV checking out the content across various news outlets over the HRH Prince Phillip news. CBC was going with rolling news coverage, as was CNN when I dipped in, and of course BBC World was carrying the News Channel output. All similar perspectives, analysis and commentaries.
A final bit of Jack admin with a call to Air Canada freight to check on collection arrangements for tomorrow morning. Nicholas is doing the honours as we aren't allowed out of quarantine.
'I'm sorry sir your son's name is not on the waybill and customs will not release him to anybody other than the named person on the waybill'.
Panic. Thoughts of Jack stuck in the airport, kennels, quarantine in his crate over the weekend while the problem was sorted out. Calls to Petair in the UK quickly reassured us that the paperwork was correct. Nick was on the waybill and providing he has corresponding ID, no problem. We hope. Copy of waybill now with Nick along with other relevant paperwork. We've no idea what paperwork Air Canada was looking at, but it certainly wasn't the all important waybill.
Clearly international moves continue to have some challenges even when the physical move is behind you. Bank accounts and local phone sims are out of reach until you have the equivalent of a SIN the Canadian equivalent of a UK NI number. You can't get one of those without a utility bill or some other Federal correspondence. Perhaps once we have BC driving licences in out clutches, we can start to unlock some of these issues.
Sometimes things just aren't that simple!
So here's hoping for a restful rest of day supping something chilled to celebrate Fred's birthday, and no more panics or bad news!

Happy Birthday Fred!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a relaxing birthday Fred and no more phone calls that are not needed! An Jack turns up on time...... Bruv
