Breakfast Rations
Which means no more quarantine rations as we head off to Vancouver later today and into our rented accommodation with garden in the Blueridge area of North Vancouver.

Our room was OK, but it's strange not being able to leave it and go for a wander or walk, the gym or the pool.  The results came through in a little over 24 hours which is what it was in the UK.  Pretty impressive.  We won't miss the food!  There has been no choice, you just get what you're given, or more precisely left by your door.  Yesterday's breakfast was a vulcanised omelette with a processed cheese slice glueing both sides together.  Different.  Today's fare was no better.  Oh for a glass of wine or a beer.

The only downside at the moment is that Canada appears to be having a further Covid peak, just as numbers in the UK start to fall.  A few more restrictions are being put in place, closer to the situation we had when leaving the UK.  That said, we are going to be outside metro Vancouver, so don't anticipate it will get in the way of exploring the area for properties.  The one big disappointment is that Whistler has had to shut and is not expected to reopen before the end of season.  So a few days on the slopes has to  be canned!

The flight to Van is four hours, which makes you realise how large Canada is.  The second largest country in the world excluding Antartica.  Just over 9 million square kilometres, compared to the UK's  242,000.  When we first came to Ontario twenty or so years ago to explore the Muskoka region, north of Toronto, we thought we'd drive to Vancouver for the second week, until we realised it would take most of the second week to get there.  Exploration will be firmly on the itinerary over the coming months.  The other striking fact is population.  Thirty million fewer than the UK with forty times the landmass.  Four people for every square kilometre to the UK's 281.

The owner of our second rental up near Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast tells us the cherry blossom is just coming out.  Though we will miss Spring in Eastcourt, we are looking forward to Spring here.

Re-packing to finish, a last quarantine lunch about to be sampled, then off to the airport.  More later.

  1. Looks like you put those boring hotel quarantine hours to good use checking out the stats! What a relief to be moving on to where you're in charge of your own food & drink!
