Day Two
Nick is in charge of activities!!!
Monday 19th Jan
He has a week off and is determined we squeeze in as many physical activities this week as possible!!!!
We are starting to lose track of time, so that's got be a good thing, right?
The early morning walk was up the Baden Powell trail from where it meets the Hyannis trail. Very uphill with lots of board walks. Stunning scenery, no bears, which is just as well as I forgot to buy my bear deterrent products at MEC yesterday!
Back from the walk, I was behind a computer screen booking an appointment with ICBC, who issue BC driving licences. The advantage is that we could benefit from reduced monopoly insurance rates ($5,000)!
It seems that as we don't have any form of status in Canada beyond 'visitor' we aren't eligible until we apply for an extension to our six months visitor stay; our super-visa comes through, or our application for residency invitation to apply is accepted. I am impressed by how well BC/Canada ensures control of their borders. I am also disappointed we are going to pay through the nose for car insurance! I'm not sure the Uk was ever this efficient!
The early morning walk was followed Kayaking in Deep Cove. It is at the far eastern end of North Vancouver and is extremely pretty. Kayak booked, Nick and I set off on a 2 hour round trip up the Indian Arm, the fjord that runs North from North Vancouver inland. If you find Port Moody and Belcarra, you'll find the Indian Arm.
The Arm was like a millpond. We got back in 90 mins which gave Fred a chance to paddle nick around!
While Nick and I were out, Jack went swimming.
After lunch at the Blue House in Deep Cove (A Covid outdoor gathering), we went for a walk on the Lynn Valley River, where Jack went swimming again!
That's enough for one day isn't it.
We are off to Whistler tomorrow for an overnight.
Watch this space!
Very jealous of you guys, please keep updating the blog. Stephen
