Love it or hate it
It's Back!
Fri Sep 10
It may not seem a significant event in UK terms, but internationally it's monumental. It has been on the shopping list for five months and has only just reappeared in our local supermarket. Its absence is due apparently, to a shortage of brewers yeast, a staple ingredient in its production. UK lovers will already know this, haters probably couldn't give a damn. It hasn't yet been covered in the Canadian press! So a message to all UK friends - please drink more beer!
Tomorrow's breakfast will be a pleasant reminder of breakfasts in Blighty. Any more shortages and pleas will be going out for supplies to be shipped from the UK!

An email popped pinged in my inbox Thursday morning with details of some workshop machinery up for sale in Sechelt.
A few hours and a visit later, the deal was done. In addition to a very decent lathe, I have now added a router table, table saw, band saw (needs work) and pillar drill - all for a princely $600. 'Cronkoak BC' will be getting underway in the near future.
The US Open (tennis) has meant that not only am I a tennis widower while Fred plays tennis, it's also true while she watches it! Methinks the challenge will be who she roots for in the ladies final. The British player who came from Canada or the Canadian player, who lives in Florida. As a neutral observer, it's brilliant that two new talented women tennis players have emerged on the scene at the same time, which can only be good for the game. As that is the extent of my knowledge, I'll comment no more.
Thursday afternoon, while the tennis was underway I headed off down to Cliff Gilker park for a wander around the creeks with Jack.
May 2021
I was struck by the difference in water over the falls between May 5th and Sep 9th. I guess after the long hot summer here we should be pleased there is still water falling!
Sept 21
Friday and some tennis friends from Sechelt came over for lunch. They are shortly heading over to the UK to see family, though no longer in Marlborough where he once lived on The Green.
Prior to their arrival, my morning walk on Hopkins Landing beach was another study in high contrast images. The small flock of Common Mergansers attracted Jack's attention but after his last epic swim to try and get hold of them, he gave up after 10 metres!
After lunch I also won the afternoon dog walk and decided to go up to Langdale Creek and Falls.
After lunch I also won the afternoon dog walk and decided to go up to Langdale Creek and Falls.
Nobody else was about so we had the forest to ourselves apart from the occasional quarrelsome Douglas Squirrel who objected to Jack's presence by chattering at him - just out of reach. How frustrating that must be if you are a Spaniel!
Similar to Cliff Gilker, the flow of water over the Langdale falls was much lower than earlier in the year, but still worth the visit.
Tomorrow morning I'm off to collect my new workshop kit, with the help of the current owners pick-up truck.
Perhaps that has to be my next acquisition! A nice big 6L truck!
And the Marmite?
