While Jack was being shorn at the doggy hairdressers (and Fred at the regular hairdressers) I wandered down to Gibsons harbour. The houseboat in the picture is covered in flowers and shrubs.
I'd not noticed it before. Alongside was a beautifully restored sailing boat in absolutely immaculate condition. All very quirky in the middle of a busy harbour.
As the week has gone on the temperature has started to climb again and another heatwave is forecast through to Sunday. Fan, and for the bedroom a freestanding AC unit, acquired. Although we can open windows and doors that have fly screens, nighttime temperatures of 18C plus are not comfortable.
With the heat has come a smokey heat haze that's enveloped the islands and distant mountains, obliterating the view that has been a constant feature since we arrived.
The islands and distant mountain views in the video below are temporarily gone.
Nick and Lizzie arrived late Fri evening, so we are expecting an action packed weekend. I am glad to have got a few practice SUP (stand up paddleboard) sessions in before Nick arrives. He's already talking about paddling over to Gambier Island (4k return).
If power gives way to sail I wonder who has right of way between and tug towing a log boom travelling a less than 1 knot or a paddle board? Whatever the rules I think I know the answer.
An annual eye check was booked with an opticians near Sechelt. I thought the practice we used in Marlborough was modern, but was bowled over with the technology they used in FYidoctors. Retinal and macular scans that produced cross sections through the eye (and 12 layers of the macular area) are part of their normal procedure. Most impressed. Rather pleased my prescription has not changed for two years now.
