Gibsons
Phone Lost & Found
Gibsons is the far (lower) end of the Coast, close to Langdale where the ferries come in and near where we will be based from the beginning of July.
Fred had decided it was a good idea to book a hair appointment and also one for Jack in Gibsons before we moved up to the far end of the Coast, an hour and ten minutes away. So off we set!
We rather like Gibsons so it was a good chance to explore what we hope will be our home town for the next year.
While Fred was having her hair done I took Jack down to Chaster Creek, near Bonnie Brook beach where we were staying before moving to Garden Bay. Good plan, except Chaster Rd was being resurfaced and we had a ten minute wait while the 'tack' coat was put down. 'You don't want to get that on your car' the Stop/Go lady controlling the traffic said. Ten minutes later we'd got to know each other quite well. She liked wood turning and carpentry and turned all the spindles for her staircase at home!
I gathered Fred up via a different route, then we dropped Jack at the dog groomers 'Babette's Barber' (he was actually well overdue a haircut). Fred made a quick pit-stop after Jack was 'settled in' for his shampoo and trim before we headed off to Smitty's Oyster Bar for some seafood. Our first meal out, which we could do without Jack in tow as BC does not allow dogs in food prep and eating areas, even on outside decks. Mad!
"Where's my phone" .... as Fred rummages through her bag and then heads back to the public loos, only to find her phone was no longer where she left it! Meanwhile her minder (me) checked her phone location, which was nearby and rang it. A Canadian lady answered with "have you lost your phone, I was taking it to the hairdressers as I saw there was an appointment on it". Phone and a grateful Fred were reunited minutes later. The young lady was from Toronto, also visiting and very kindly thought to take it to the Visitor Info booth or to the appointment Fred had just come from...
While we waited for Smitty's to open we strolled out on the 'no dogs' dock. Video below.
With the relaxation of Covid rules on Tuesday, we learnt that Smitty's received over 70 calls for bookings this week. They keep a couple of tables for 'walk-ups' and we were first in the queue!
You need to understand that if we are anywhere near the sea and crab is on offer, Fred will have crab any which way. Whole, salad, sandwiches, fishcakes or, in this case - legs. I had to help her out!
Nick was due to come over to the Coast but as he'd had four wisdom teeth out the day before, we were uncertain when. We'd planned to rendezvous at the new house so he could drop off Jack's shipping crate, which we'd not had room to store. The first ferry was full, traffic is clearly up with the loosening of travel restrictions, so we headed back to Garden Bay via a walk at Homesite Creek Falls and another swim for Jack.
Nick pitched up at about five thirty, not looking like a hamster, and he and I were out canoeing twenty minutes later. Jack, who had stayed fluffy and white for only a short while since his haircut was back in the lake and back to his usual scruffy 'activity dog' look!
