Public Holiday in the UK
Raining on the Sunshine Coast
Mon May 3rd
.....possibly in sympathy with the weather in the UK. Though the view was not bad as the sun started setting yesterday evening. The Sunshine Coast faces Vancouver Island lying in a South Westerly direction, so large parts of the coast enjoy stunning sunsets over Vancouver Island. Our area of Bonniebrook is a shallow cove and at the top end we are facing more a southerly direction, so do not see the setting sun. Nevertheless a rather nice view.
Our local Otter was back on the rocks this morning, though the overcast morning made photography difficult.
Seeing an unusual bird fly in to a nearby dead tree, followed by a similar but smaller version had the binoculars out. A quick scramble through the bird book and they were identified as a pair of Belted Kingfishers. An absolute delight, though I had to avert my eyes as they demonstrated their joy of spring!
The picture is not great because of the distance, double gazing and light, but it shows the crest and the white belt round the neck.

The morning's walk was south along the beach. The rocks made walking difficult so the return was along the road. We have seen herons on the foreshore, but this Great Blue heron allowed us to get with about 20ft, before Jack decided to go and introduce himself. You could probably hear his/her displeasure at being disturbed from the other end of the beach!
The other delight on the walk was a Golden Eagle, some distance away but with the distinctive wing markings.

The other regular visitors have been a solitary Seal and a small group of Sea Lions. Our hosts helped us clear up which was which as we had no idea. Ear flaps on the Sea Lion is a giveaway if all you see is a bobbing head and the Sea Lion also has a loud bark. Fred thought it was a dog on the beach!

Other than that, today was getting to know the area, a quick shop and then watching the rain and Vancouver Island appear and disappear in the murk.
Tomorrow we hook up with the realtor we have been working with to look at four properties - assuming they have not been sold.
Since completing the blog the Otter came back and game me a chance to get some close-up shots and a Bald (White) Eagle, settle on the dead tree.
These are just a few of the images:
Wow great piccies and superb area. Good luck with the viewings - Bruv
