Property Search Continues

Fred did the morning walk as I was at the (virtual) gym. Vancouver Island had disappeared in a convergence of cloud, mist and sea, and small clouds of mist hung through the tress on our coastline. It is just as beautiful in the rain as in the sun.
Much of our property searches has been in and around Sechelt, a town roughly midway along the Sunshine Coast, with Gibsons in the SE corner and Pender Harbour/Garden Bay the other end. It is where the Sunshine Coast Regional District offices are headquartered, as well as Sechelt District Council. It also has the only hospital on the coast. We had three properties to view. The first was a project and not quite what we had in mind. The second was more modern and well kitted out. It was surrounded by tall tress close to the house and rather hemmed in by other properties, so felt rather dark.
The last property was stunning. On the western side of Sechelt inlet, looking over the inlet and the mountains on both sides. We have some thinking to do and research to undertake. The house is about .5km from an area north of Sechelt called Seawatch. Soon after the first of a dozen or so properties started to developed on the Seawatch site, a series of sink holes developed. In the end the area was evacuated and fenced off from the public. Litigation continues. The issue appears to have arisen as a result of the gradient and soil and subsoil structures not being adequately stabilized and drained. Indeed some of the reports suggest that the construction work and tree felling exacerbated the problem causing fine sands in the substructure to wash out, resulting in the sink holes.
Fortunately the area we are looking at has had some houses in place longer the Seawatch, with no apparent problems, but we are accessing the geotech surveys carried out before the house we are looking at was built three years ago. We plan to have a further drive around the area tomorrow before booking a second viewing on Friday.

The morning walk with Jack was very peaceful. The water was like a mill pond and there were few other people out. After an 11.00 call with out realtor we took a drive in to the area near the property we are considering, to check out the surrounding roads, walks and access to water.
The area is quite pretty and has some good walks between the roads and down to the water. The video below was shot at Secret Harbour.
When we moved to Burbage having young children as a good introduction to other people. In Canada, a dog has the same affect. So we got chatting to a local dog walker and learnt a lot about the surrounding area to the house.
A quick visit to the shops on the way back the afternoon was spent on house research.
When we head up to Garden Bay at the end of next week we want to check out Skookumchuck Narrows this is the area at the top of the neck at the top of the Sechelt inlet which the water is forced through every tide and creates a Severn Bore type effect. Supposed to be quite a site and popular with surfers.
